It’s winter time, and the best time to play some Skyrim!!!!! (Master Betty and I like the snowy tundra feel of the game, and it always seems most appropriate in the winter, so we’re excited about all the real snow out there lately.) It’s also a good game to help cool down in mid-summer, but then I just get confused when I remember it’s supposed to be hot out.
I started a new game, so pooooor Cicero is not currently my follower right now. (Cicero is the jester guy that is with the Dark Brotherhood. When you complete that whole quest, and if he lives, you can have him as a follower. I won’t say anything about how or why or the if the dying or who so it will stay totally confusing to those who haven’t played through that part yet.) Cicero always wants a sweet roll, or a carrot, so I filled his carry space up with dozens and dozens of them. The only thing he had on him when I first checked was a super sharp dagger. I think it was an Ebony dagger? But since I knew he preferred daggers and my smithing skills were out the roof, I made him one of them all. Yeah, I know they don’t eat anything…and they’re not real…and they’d use the best weapon you gave them, but so what? I can love my pretend friends! (*Sob* Forever alone!)
I did find a dude follower named Marcurio instead of Lydia this time. I could never get Lydia to stop killing people once I forgave them for whatever they’d done to tick me off that made me start punching them in the first place. She’d chase them until they were dead!
Marcurio seems a little prissy, though. When I want him to hold stuff, even though I give him great weapons and armor so he can be a better help to me, he’s all like, “I’m an apprentice magician! I am not a pack mule!” Or something like that. I thought he’d be easier to get along with since I’m wearing an Amulet of Mara, which has the gaming perks of making your restoration spells costs 10% less to cast, but it also signals you’re looking for a mate, so people in the game start hitting on you.
Master Betty had found one of these amulets early on in one of his games, so he was wearing it just because he didn’t have any other necklaces yet. (He usually likes to be all brawny and heavy armor and doesn’t go with the sneaky magic stuff like I do, so he will quickly find things that increase other attributes.) He was trying to talk to this soldier about something, (maybe it was a merchant…I can’t remember now…), but the guy kept hitting on him. M.B. was sooo confused by the man’s conversation with him, and it didn’t dawn on him until he scanned his belongings later that it was his own fault for wearing a necklace that means he’s looking for love. It made me start wondering about Skyrim pickup lines, which I then unleashed on his Facebook timeline on Valentine’s Day. “Did you just drink a potion of ultimate stamina, because you’ve been running through my mind all day?” *Snort, snort, snort* Sometimes I think about signing into his game and arranging for him to wear an Amulet of Mara and see how long it takes him to notice afterwards…
I only recently got around to watching X-Men: Days of Future Past. I really loved it, and now I’m obsessed with X-Men! It had a desperate feel throughout the whole end-of-all-mutants subject without making me totally depressed like a lot of apocalyptic-type of movies are trying to go for lately. I’ve also never been able to sympathize with Xavier until this movie, though the actor was doing a great job in the First-Class movies already. I just think he really threw his all into this performance, and it pleased me greatly.
Oh, and Quicksilver! Ermegersh I think I’m in lurvz now! When making him run and move ‘quickly’, it was done excellently! Not like the odd way they are making poor Flash look in the newest Flash TV series. Not that I don’t like the tv series. It’s just that the way they have him run reminds me of how I pretend-run-in-place when I’m telling a story. Quicksilver’s attitude was quirky and fun, and witty! I’ll bet the actor really did his background research! It seemed to me that ‘being fast’ was really thought out on how someone might cope and react to things because of their skill.
After finishing this movie and immediately needing another X-Men fix, Master Betty (hubby) offered up his Onslaught comic book collection for me to read, and that’s what I’m doing right now while I wait for the Marvel Now Uncanny X-Men comics to get here in the mail. There are 4 volumes out so far of the Uncanny X-Men, and I went ahead and assumed I’m going to want to read through them. I haven’t read any reviews on if they’re any good or not. I can tell you that the first volume of Onslaught is epic so far! Woot-woot! I have to make myself stop reading once I get started so I don’t get a headache. As far as X-Men in Marvel Now, I think there are several different routes to go, but Uncanny X-men are supposed to be the current flagship, so that’s what I’m going with for starters.
I suppose the other place I can get an X-Men fix for this new obsession is the Lego Marvel game for our PS3. All the Lego games are super adorable, and I love smashing all the blocks I can find. There are plenty of X-Men in the Lego Marvel game.
Those are my current suggestions for X-Men lovers in various fields of entertainment! All these pictures link to where you can get this stuff on Amazon.com! Now go and have fun, my ghoulz! *Mimes Professor Xavior’s temple-touching thing he does while influencing people’s minds.*
We just got the Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls expansion pack!!! I’m super excited because I love Diablo 3 a bunch!!!! You can read my review of Diablo 3 here. I have not played enough of Reaper of Souls to write about it yet. All I can say is that I am so happy to have something new for the whole Diablo atmosphere!
To make a point of how much I lurvz this game, I have played through it on Inferno mode, (the highest level), AND visited all the Whimsyshire worlds in each of those levels. AND I have played through the game from start to finish to hear the perspective of the characters of the Monk, the Barbarian, the Wizard, and am now working on going through it as the Witchdoctor and then the Demon Hunter! I am taking my time with those last two because I just don’t want it to be over! Now with the expansion pack I can go ahead and either truck through the other two characters, or save those two like I have been and complete the entire Reaper of Souls expansion pack without feeling like I don’t want to finish it. I think I’ll do the second of those options.
Right now, Master Betty (my gaming sensei), and I are playing Reaper of Souls together with pre-existing characters because your saves transfer!! Well, Reaper of Souls shows up on the game as Act V, so you have to have played through Act IV to get to it. It also has a new character to play as: the Crusader, and to play as him you have to start from the very beginning. I was too excited to see the new Act V to wait and play through the entire game again with the Crusader just yet, so we picked up with some existing characters and started right away with Act V. It’s great so far and just new enough to hook me! I’m really glad that when we finish it, there will be a reason to play through the entire game all over again to hear things from the Crusader’s perspective!!
Starling: “UGH! My SD card for my camera is full!! You’re using it for your handheld games again?! I’m trying to take selfies of my new hat!”
Master Betty: “You didn’t have any pictures on there this morning, and I left a lot of space just in case you needed it. I’m pretty sure there was plenty of space for like 50 pictures. How many selfies do you need at one time?”
Starling: Sinks out of sight with SD card containing 50 selfies of new hat.
*Master Betty is heavily into his game, forgetting the world around him. Starling is crocheting peacefully and humming to herself*
Master Betty: “Haha! Take that!”
Master Betty: “That’s what I do to thieves! That’s what you get!” *Turns and grab’s Starling’s shoulders. Gazes into eyes threateningly* “I KILL THEM!!!”
Master Betty: *Shakes wife vigorously* “I tackle them, rob them, and then PUNISH them!”
Starling: “I won’t! I won’t steal from you!”
Master Betty: *Dark tone* “They won’t be hurting anyone anymore…”

I have defeated Diablo III, (the video game), on Normal mode, Nightmare Mode, Hell Mode, and now I’m working on Inferno Mode!
There are five characters to choose from to play as, and each of those five give you the option of being male or female. I have played as the monk, and am currently going through as a wizard chick who I named Ikol after Loki’s bird in the comic books.
You can have multiple players on the same screen. That was a big deal to me when I first started playing because I was so insecure. Master Betty, my hubby, was leveled-up really high, but he played along with me and had his barbarian, Keldon, simply stand to the side and ‘hang out’ so that I could battle on my own and level up, yet if I got lost or panicked he could step over there and rescue me. He had already beaten the game on his own several times, so it wasn’t long before he became immersed in his other games, but by then I was brave enough to battle evil on my own…so I continued to play until my eyes bled. And yes, we do have two televisions side-by-side and sit next to each other gaming, sometimes even wearing headphones for new games or having the volume up on the ones with the best scores when playing older games. I LOVE the score for Diablo III, and I very much enjoy everything that my follower, Templar yells during game play!
“EVIL HAS BEEN REBUKED!!!!” ~ Templar
The replay value is superb!!!! Yip-yip! I adore my follower, Templar, and his conversations the entire time! He says my favorite types of phrases, such as, “Treasure unimaginable!” At some point I want to try playing through with different followers because they each have their own unique stories and separate randomly generated phrases for game play. The characters you play as also have their own unique qualities and little variations in the story here and there. Details like these in the characters and followers make the game feel almost brand new at times! I’ll be playing this for sooooooooo long! I’m never going to sell or trade it!
The controls are so responsive that I never have to button-mash at all! I just set them to anything I might need and memorize what they’ll do, and it works for me how and when I need it! The story line is intriguing, and the cut scenes make my artistic brain implode and then explode in awe, especially closer to the end! The villains are well developed and I just wanna GET THOSE BAD GUYS!
I also finally gathered everything to make the Staff of Herding to get into Whimsyshire, and I went there! The unicorns and bears attacked me so adorably! There were cupcakes! Then I upgraded the Staff of Herding and went back to Whimsyshire on Nightmare Mode! The layout was different, but I don’t know if it changes per level or if it’s randomly generated like all the other settings, but it was still so kewl! You have to beat each level completely before you can upgrade the staff for that level, so as a completionist I’m going to beat the last level, Inferno, and visit Inferno Whimsyshire! If you want to make it to Whimsyshire and have no idea where to start, you can get help here on the Diablo wiki site, or here on IGN.
When I playing through on Nightmare Mode I equipped my wizard chick with all kinds of ‘magic find’ stuff and slowly built up the most awesome equipment. It’s still working for me up in Inferno Mode, so much so that even though I leveled up Haedrig the Blacksmith all the way, there still isn’t anything more powerful to make!
A question for you: Do you notice the changes in the shops as you level up the smithy and the jeweler?
I didn’t notice until I leveled up Covetous Shen, the jeweler, all the way and his shop became lined with royal purple accents! Then I went to check Haedrig’s shop and, sure enough, his shop had changed too and I’d missed it! I won’t ruin it for you if you haven’t leveled them up, but if you have and you missed it as you went along, or you don’t mind the spoilers and are just curious, you can see it here for Haedrig and here for Covetous Shen.
You’re probably not surprised that my rating for this game is five out of five hearts! I can’t say it does or does not deserve a ‘green fan-favorite’ heart, though, because I have not played any of the previous Diablo games, so I don’t know how long-time fans should feel as far as overall tone/feel of the game being true to Diablo style and imagination. I can say that I’m excited for the expansion pack, Reaper of Souls, to come out in August, so I need to buy the PS4 version of Diablo III because I think it’s only available on there and not the PS3. It’s supposed to be pretty big, as in having a lot to do and taking quite awhile to finish; 7 hours for the main story, over 10 hours including extras, and over 52 hours for completionists, like me! Lurvz!!! There’s going to be a mystic that you can level up just like the jeweler and the blacksmith in the expansion pack, too!
Well, I gotta get back to my game now! Party on, ghoulz!
